Metrobus service changes effective August 24

WASHINGTON (WUSA9/WMATA)--Heads up if you take Metrobus. WMATA has announced changes that will take effect Sunday, August 24:

"Three new Metrobus routes – 30N, 30S and 33 – along Pennsylvania Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue and Metroway, a new premium transit service between Crystal City and Braddock Road are among the improvements that will take effect Sunday, August 24, as Metro implements the next round of bus service changes to reduce crowding and improve reliability.

"Many of these changes are the direct result of passenger feedback and a comprehensive study conducted on several routes to provide faster travel times and improved connections."

Here are the service changes starting August 24:

  • New 30N and 30S service replaces Route 32 and 36 between Friendship Heights and Naylor Road/Southern Ave.
  • New Route 33 replaces Route 32 and 36 service on Wisconsin Avenue between Friendship Heights and Archives.
  • Route 9S will be replaced by Metroway — a premium transit service between Crystal City and Braddock Road Metrorail station.
  • Route 7Y will now service Farragut Square, McPherson Square, and Mt. Vernon Square.
  • Route Y5, Y7, Y8, Y9 service improvements, along with the discontinuation of the Y5 and Y9.
  • Increased capacity with longer buses along 16th Street and Georgia Avenue.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

Important 30-Line Service Changes

New Routes 30N, 30S Friendship Heights-Southeast

  • New Route 30N will replace crosstown Route 36 and provide service between Naylor Road and Friendship Heights, once every hour, seven days a week.
  • New Route 30S will replace crosstown Route 32 and provide service between Southern Avenue and Friendship Heights, once every hour, seven days a week.

New Route 33 Wisconsin Avenue

  • New Route 33 will provide frequent service between Friendship Heights and Archives, replacing Route 32 and 36 service on Wisconsin Avenue NW.

Route 31 Wisconsin Avenue

  • A new schedule will reflect revised trip times, coordinated with other 30-Line service along Wisconsin Avenue NW to provide similar service frequency as today.

Routes 32, 36 Pennsylvania Avenue

  • Route 32 and 36 will now operate between Southeast DC and Foggy Bottom only at greater frequency. These routes will no longer serve Wisconsin Avenue NW.

Route 34 Naylor Road

  • A new schedule will reflect revised trip times and coordination with other Pennsylvania Avenue SE bus routes.

Route 5A DC-Dulles

  • A new schedule will reflect trip time adjustments.

Route 70 Georgia Avenue-7th Street

  • Longer buses with additional capacity will replace standard size buses on some weekday trips to address crowding.

Route 96 East Capitol Street-Cardozo

  • Additional weekday service has been added between 14th & U Street NW and Tenleytown Metrorail station when public schools are open to address crowding.
  • A new weekend schedule will reflect trip time adjustments.

Routes A4, W5 Anacostia-Fort Drum

  • A new schedule will reflect trip time adjustments.

Route A7 Anacostia-Congress Heights

  • Additional weekday service has been added when public schools are open to address crowding.

Routes D31, D32, D34 Deal Junior High School

  • A second 7:36 a.m. westbound D31 trip will be added to depart from 16th Street & Eastern Avenue NW.
  • The 8:00 a.m. westbound D32 trip departing from 14th Street & Irving Street NW will be changed to 7:55 a.m.
  • A 4:30 p.m. eastbound trip will be added to depart from Deal Junior High School.

Route D51 Duke Ellington School of Arts

  • Buses will serve the temporary bus stop at 11th Street & Clifton Street NW (Meyer School) during a two-year renovation project.

Route H9 Park Road-Brookland

  • The 7:35 a.m. westbound trip to Archbishop John Carroll High School will no longer operate.

Route M31 McKinley High School

  • The eastbound 5:15 p.m. trip to Rhode Island Avenue will be discontinued.

Routes S2, S4 16th Street

  • Longer buses with additional capacity will replace standard size buses on some weekday trips to address crowding.

Route U2 Minnesota Avenue-Anacostia

  • Additional weekday service has been added when public schools are open to address crowding.

Route W1 Shipley Terrace-Fort Drum

  • Additional weekday service has been added when public schools are open to address crowding.

MARYLAND

Routes A11, A12 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway
Route C2 Greenbelt-Twinbrook
Route C8 College Park-White Flint
Route F6 New Carrollton-Fort Totten
Route J4 College Park-Bethesda

  • A new schedule will reflect trip time adjustments due to a long-term detour along Stadium Drive while Campus Drive is closed for construction. This detour is expected to last about two years.

Routes F1, F2 Chillum Road

  • Buses will no longer serve Tuxedo Road & 51st Place stop due to its close proximity to Cheverly Metrorail station.

Routes Y5, Y7, Y8, Y9 Georgia Avenue-Maryland

  • Route Y5 and Y9 designations will be eliminated.
  • Route Y7 weekday service will operate between Silver Spring, Leisure World and the ICC Park & Ride. Weekend service will operate between Leisure World and Wheaton Metrorail station only.
  • Route Y8 will run service between Silver Spring and Montgomery Medical Center bypassing Leisure World and the ICC Park & Ride.
  • Time between buses on the combined portion of the route will decrease to every 10 minutes during peak periods and every 15 minutes during off-peak periods.

VIRGINIA

Route 7Y Lincolnia-North Fairlington

  • Service will no longer serve Constitution Avenue NW between 18th Street and Federal Triangle.
  • Buses will operate on K Street (northbound) and I Street (southbound), serving Farragut Square, McPherson Square and Mt. Vernon Square.

Route 9S Crystal City-Potomac Yard Shuttle

  • Route 9S changes to New Metroway, a premium transit service between Crystal City and Braddock Road Metrorail station, seven days a week.
  • New Metroway is a limited stop service. Several current local stops will be eliminated.
  • Service is scheduled to operate every 12 minutes during weekday middays, every 15 minutes during weekday evenings and every 20 minutes on weekends.
  • Additional service between Crystal City and South Glebe will provide for six minute service during peak periods.

Route 11Y Mount Vernon Express

  • An additional a.m. trip will be added to eliminate crowding.

Route 29N Alexandria-Fairfax

  • New Sunday service has been added and will operate every hour between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
