WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- A 44-year-old MetroAccess driver has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman with an intellectual disability, Metro Transit Police said.

Metro Transit Police arrested Derrick Lamont Bowen, 44, of Southeast, D.C. Tuesday night on sexual-offense and assault charges following an alleged incident on a paratransit vehicle Tuesday morning.

According to authorities Bowen stopped the MetroAccess van in a church parking lot located in the 12700 block of Claxton Drive in Laurel around 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

A witness allegedly saw Bowen moved to the back of the van where he engaged in a sexual act with the woman. Metro Transit Police said nobody else was on the van at the time of the incident.

Authorities said the witness called 911 and Prince George's County officers then arrested Bowen. The victim was taken to the hospital for an evaluation. She has an intellectual disability.

Police said a review of GPS data shows that the van did stop in the parking lot at the time of the 911 call.

Bowen is being charged with third degree sex offense, fourth degree sexual contact and second degree assault.

The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may come.
