Metro train delays continue through end of November

Train times continue to be every 15 minutes for the Red Line, every 20 minutes for the Green Line and every 30 minutes for Orange, Blue, Yellow and Silver Lines.

WASHINGTON — Metro will continue with their current service through at least the end of November, WMATA announced, while continuing to make incremental improvements through their re-introduction of 2000, 3000, and 6000 series rail cars back into passenger service.

Train times continue to be every 15 minutes for the Red Line, every 20 minutes for the Green Line and every 30 minutes for Orange, Blue, Yellow and Silver Lines.

According to WMATA, 90% of Thursday trains arrived within 10 minutes of their schedule.

In an announcement last week, Metro said older trains would be pulled out of storage and put back into service in hopes of operating in a way that will meet ridership needs and avoid over-crowding.

However, at the time, 32 2000-series and 3000-series cars were still at Shady Grove Yard due to logistical issues, according to WMATA spokesman Ian Jannetta.

Although, now all 32 of the trains have now been removed from the yard and progress is being made as the trains are prepared for passenger service.

“[The trains] will help us provide more safe, reliable service to customers,” WMATA stated.

WMATA also continues to work towards getting 7000-series cars back in service.

The Washington Metrorail Safety Commission accepted the agency's testing plan, which will take a couple weeks to complete.

"Following additional revisions by WMATA, the WMSC has reviewed and has communicated to WMATA that there are no technical objections to the revised test plan for a road test of two 7000 Series trains in simulated service," WMSC tweeted Friday. "The WMSC will closely monitor the testing activities."

WMATA also gave an update on the Rockville Canopy Project, specifying that the glass fiber reinforced concrete panels that are being installed were damaged in shipping and sent back to the manufacturer to be replaced. The timeline for the project’s completion remains in mid-January due to the issue, but progress continues to be made, the metro service said.
