Prince George's County youth football team heads to Nationals with special send-off

After going undefeated during their season, National Harbor sent the the DMV Knights DaWave Boyz to Florida in style.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — After going undefeated during their season, a Prince George's County youth football team playing in memory of PJ Evans is heading to the American Youth Football National Championship game in Florida, thanks in large part to the giving spirit of the DMV community.

We first introduced you to the 9-year-old ballers of the DMV Knights DaWave Boyz a few weeks ago, when they put together an online fundraiser to help raise money to get them to the game.

That fundraiser raised more than $21,000 for their trip. One of those who lent a helping hand was the family who developed the National Harbor. They saw our story, and arranged to have a celebration for the team.

"We like to help out in the community, and this was just another example of giving back to the community because it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, maybe, for some of these kids," Jon Peterson said.

Head coach Marcus Artis was blown away by the generosity.

"I just want to say thank you to everybody, because it's a lot, man, and these kids really appreciate it," Artis said.

Congratulations to Artis and especially to the kids.

Good luck in Florida, but as far as we're concerned, you are already champions.
