Woman robbed in grocery store parking lot, police search for suspect

The suspect pushed the woman to the ground before taking her bag and fleeing from the scene in an unknown vehicle.

KENSINGTON, Md. — Police are searching for a suspect accused of pushing a woman to the ground and robbing her in the West Wheaton Giant Food parking lot in Montgomery County, Maryland Thursday afternoon. 

Around 1:40 p.m. on March 16, officers responded to the Giant Food store located in the 2900 block of University Boulevard West in Wheaton for a report of a robbery that had just occurred at the grocery store.

Detectives claim a woman was loading groceries into her car when the suspect approached her, pushed her to the ground, and stole her purse.

The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown vehicle with the stolen property.

Police say no injuries were reported as a result of the robbery and the woman is safe. While no concrete details were given on the woman's age, she was described by police as "elderly."

A suspect is still wanted for their involvement in this case. 

Detectives have not provided any clues regarding the identity of the suspect at this time.
