PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Prince George's County is hosting a job fair on Tuesday, Nov. 2 to help locals, many of whom were included in the county's 10.9% unemployment rate mid-pandemic.
County Executive Angela Alsobrooks joined the WUSA9 team on Get Up DC Thursday morning to talk details.
"We want to make sure we're connecting people with opportunities they need to be employed," Alsobrooks shared.
The fair will start at 10 a.m. and last until 2 p.m. It will be located at City of Praise Family Ministries; 8501 Jericho City Drive, Landover, Md.
The fair will include plenty of resources for a host of industries, including:
- Amazon
- Prince George’s County Government
- Information Technology
- Retail/food/beverage
- Hospitality
- Healthcare
- Transportation
The fair will also offer many government and community tools to participants from various departments, such as the Department of Family Services and social services. Housing and Community Development will also be represented, which can help participants navigate emergency rental assistance. The County Health Department will also be offering COVID-19 vaccines, among many other departmental resources.
The job fair will also feature a Maryland Legal Aid expungement clinic for those who have a criminal history and are interested in clearing their records.
"In some cases, that record dates back years ago and could be cleared, but it still negatively impacts their ability to find a job," a representative of the fair explained. "Free expungement clinics like this help people with a criminal history clear their records so it can be easier to find a job; lawyers will help determine if someone is eligible, and if they are, work with them through the process to clear their record."
