Police charge man for first-degree murder in Germantown homicide

Lawrence Edward Sakkestad, 34, has been charged for first-degree murder after a female victim was found in a Germantown home on Monday.

GERMANTOWN, Md. — Montgomery County police confirmed one female is dead and have arrested and charged Lawrence Edward Sakkestad, 34, for first-degree murder after investigating a homicide in Germantown on Monday.

Police responded to a call in the 20000 block of Dunstable Circle around 9 p.m. 

When officers arrived, Sakkestad answered the door and immediately surrendered himself to the police. Once inside the home, police found a female victim suffering from trauma. She was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The victim’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Officials are still working on identifying the victim and will release her name upon further investigation.

Officers believe the incident appears to be contained to the residence and there were no additional threats to the surrounding area.

Sakkstad is currently held without bond.
