1 man in serious condition after police-involved shooting in Germantown

No officers were injured.

GERMANTOWN, Md. -- One man was shot and remains in serious condition after an officer-involved shooting in Germantown on Sunday afternoon.

The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Devin Conlon Brunner. He has been charged with six counts of first-degree assault.

Police said Sunday evening that officers were called to Cross Laurel Court in Germantown at around 2:41 p.m. for reports of a man wielding a gun.

During the encounter, an officer shot the man. Police say he is now in a local hospital in serious condition.

A weapon was recovered at the scene.

No officers injured, and police say there is body camera footage of the incident.

Tracy Katoski lives across from the scene being investigated. She was greeted by a closed-off street when she got home.

“I called my neighbor and she said that there had been initial couple shots - two shots - then a pause and then more shots. And then there was an ambulance came up and they took away one of the people who live in the neighborhood,” said Katoski.

Katoski believes that injured person, the suspect, grew up on the Cross Laurel Crt. and lives with his family there. She described him as a young man in his mid to late 20s and tells reporters the suspect never had any issues before, as far as she knew.

“I feel really bad because this is a really nice neighborhood. It’s very quiet. It’s kind of like, set back against, you know, away from the hustle-bustle and to come home and see all of this happening is just terrible. If really is. It’s really sad. I just feel really bad that it had to happen here,” said Katoski.

It is unknown what lead up to the shooting ir whether there were prior complaints on the man.

This shooting comes nearly a week after three officer-involved shootings were reported in and around the D.C.-area within 24 hours. None were related.
