MANASSAS, Va. — Prince William County police said there is no threat following reports of a person with a gun in the parking lot of Unity Reed High School Thursday morning in Manassas, Virginia.

The report was received from social media, police said.

Prince William County Police conducted an investigation and searched nearby schools. Unity  Reed High School and Ellis Elementary School were placed on "secure the building status" during the investigation, according to the official Twitter account of Prince William County Public Schools. That restriction has since been lifted.  "Everyone is safe," the tweet said.

Following their initial investigation, Prince William County Police said "there are no indications the person in question was actually on campus."

Investigators said they are following up on the initial social media report Thursday.
