WASHINGTON -- Huge crowds shut down 12th and Florida Avenue in Northeast DC today, to memorialize a biking advocate who lost his life Friday when he was hit by a driver in a stolen minivan.
A ghost bike tribute happened Sunday morning where David Salovesh died Friday while biking.
Salovesh's best friend Rudi Riet said it's the worst irony ever, that Salovesh died while on his bike.
"He just wanted a safe route for his daughter to bike to school and for him to be killed by a driver is the most cruel irony there could be," Riet said.
D.C. police have arrested Robert Little and charged him with second-degree murder. Police say Little was evading police when he hit another car then the bike safety advocate who is well known in the community.
The crowd demanded change from the mayor, saying her vision zero program is failing.
Salovesh's friends are asking people to take off Friday, to further protest the lack of bike safety in D.C.
Salovesh leaves behind a wife and daughter.
