GERMANTOWN, Md. -- A 21-year-old man was shot in Germantown near a vigil for a girl who was shot and killed over the weekend at an after-prom party, police said.
Shots were heard around 8:13 p.m at Sage Way and Cinnamon Drive, Montgomery County police stated. This happened in the area of where a vigil for 18-year-old Genesis Marie McCarter-Berretto, of Gaithersburg was being held. She was killed at by a 17-year-old over the weekend, police said.
Not too long after shots were fired, a 21-year-old victim showed up at the Germantown Emergency Center located at 19731 Germantown Road. Police believe he was driven there by an acquaintance from Sage Way. He is currently in serious condition.
Detectives are trying to determine if the shooting was related to the vigil.
