Ambale has a lengthy criminal history in Maryland. He has been arrested three other times on DUI related charges; in 2007, 2012 and 2013. Court records indicate the 2012 arrest was a DUI while driving a rental car and operating the car on a revoked license.

A Montgomery County Police spokesman told WUSA9 that Ambale did not attempt to flee the accident scene. He was processed at a local precinct and released several hours later and taken home by a taxi.
