Woman dies after being assaulted by husband, Frederick police say

FREDERICK, Md. -- A woman has died after being assaulted by her husband, Frederick police said.

On May 16, an officer responded to a domestic assault after learning about it from the Frederick Memorial Hospital. Diana Shaff Peckaitis, 72, of the 1500 block of West 10th Street in Frederick was getting treated for serious injuries she got from an assault.

Police said the woman told the officer that her husband assaulted her.

Officers went to the home looking for George Worthington Ramer, 64, however were unable to find him. An arrest warrant was then issued. He was charged with first and second degree assault.

On May 17, around 1:50 a.m. police found Ramer at his home and made the arrest.

Authorities said the wife was transported to a different hospital due to the severity of her injuries. She died from her injuries on May 17.

This case remains under investigation. Ramer is currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center on a no bond status. Additional charges are pending.
