FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A 20-year-old man was killed in a shooting Saturday morning in Fairfax County, Virginia and police say they have arrested a suspect.
Darren Cruz Colindres, 18, was arrested and charged Saturday afternoon after police found him at an apartment in McLean, Virginia.
According to officials, a family member of Gomez who lived in the apartment heard a gunshot, saw Cruz Colindez run from the apartment, and called 911 at around 8 a.m.
Officers from the Fairfax County Police Department responded to a call of a shooting in the 10400 block of Viera Lane Saturday morning. Officials say when officers arrived at the scene they found Javier Gomez suffering from a gunshot wound inside the living room of an apartment.
Detectives learned that Gomez and Cruz Colindrez were "known associates" and were both in the apartment Friday night into Saturday morning.
Gomez was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, Lieutenant James Curry said in a press conference.
Fairfax County police said the shooting does not appear to be a random act and it wasn't domestic-related.
Cruz Colindres was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to officials.
Detectives are working to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death, according to officials.
