REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (WUSA9) -- An 80-year-old was carjacked after giving a couple a ride to downtown Rehoboth Beach over the weekend, police said.

Rehoboth Beach police said the 80-year-old Hagerstown man gave the man and woman a ride to Royal Farms in the downtown area. The couple met the victim outside of a Wawa outside Rehoboth located on Veterans Way Saturday morning at 10:15.

When they got to the Royal Farms the victim says the woman asked if she could drive. The victim became suspicious at this point. He tried to take the keys out of the ignition of the SUV, however the woman grabbed at the victim and scratched his hand.

Police said the victim was able to get out of the SUV but the man then jumped into the driver's seat and drove off toward the water on Columbia Ave.

The SUV is described as a gray/charcoal 2002 Chevy Suburban with Maryland tags 3CK6851.

There were three fishing poles attached to the roof of the SUV, a rear lift gate, chrome bumpers and small dents to the backside of the driver's side door and front bumper.
