SPRINGFIELD, Va. — Snow across D.C., Maryland and Virginia caused slippery conditions on roadways early Saturday morning. Snow started sticking in Springfield, Virginia before 6 a.m.
A mixed bag of snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected to cause slick roads and less-than-ideal driving conditions as the weekend progresses. The overall critical timing for wintry weather Saturday is 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for areas north and west of D.C. for the potential travel impacts.
The two primary time-frames to focus on are Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon to early evening. Snow is expected Saturday morning, especially north of D.C.
Saturday evening, the D.C. Metro area is expected to get a light wintry mix early, changing to rain during the afternoon.
Southern Fauquier received a dusting of snow.
Anacostia roadways are fine, as it's only received light snow early Saturday morning.
Slick driveways and sidewalks are a main concern Saturday. Merrifield, Virginia received enough snow to coat the roads.
The greatest impacts to travel are north and west of the D.C. Metro area where untreated roads could be slick throughout the day Saturday.
Parts of Sterling, Virginia received a flake or two.

This is the second snowfall of 2020. The first was Tuesday, Jan. 7. The areas that were impacted were mainly inside the Beltway. Totals were as high as nearly six inches in some areas west of I-81.
Parts of western Maryland registered more than four inches of snow. There were widespread reports of three to four inches of snow across parts of northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley west of the metro. In the D.C. Metro, one to two inches fell on the northwest side of the Beltway, where inside the beltway totals were generally under an inch.
