A section of rope was found near the MLK Memorial Friday afternoon, the U.S. Park Police said.
The rope wasn’t hanging. It was found on a bench in the memorial. A female, who might have been part of a tour group, turned it in to the memorial’s bookstore.
USPP did not release any further information.
Anyone with information about the incident or the unknown female is asked to contact the United States Park Police at (202) 610-8737.
The rope was found two days after someone hung a noose inside the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Park Police investigators have surveillance video from inside the museum, but a spokesperson isn’t saying what, if anything, the agency found.
