Man dead after Southeast DC shooting

The man was found not conscious and not breathing at Wahler Place, Southeast. He has since been pronounced dead.

WASHINGTON — A man was shot dead on Sunday afternoon in Southeast D.C., according to police.

The call came in around 1:03 p.m. for the sounds of gunshots at Wahler Place and 9th Street. Police arrived at the scene to find a man who was not conscious and not breathing as a result of the sound of the gunfire. 

The man was pronounced dead afterward. The victim has since been identified as 56-year-old Michael Andre Evans from Oxon Hill, Maryland.

 Police have not yet released any lookout information.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a person responsible for each homicide committed in the District. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099.

 Additionally, anonymous information can be submitted to the department’s text tip line by sending a text message to 50411.
