Man dies two years after being shot in Southeast DC

Police say Tekoar Jennette was shot in June 2021 and died from his injuries more than two years later.

WASHINGTON — Police are investigating after a man died more than two years after being shot in Southeast D.C.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened in the 4700 block of Benning Road just after 6 a.m. on June 13, 2021. 

A man was found suffering in the area but police were unable to see how he was injured. Once he was taken to an area hospital, staff determined he had been shot. He was later identified as 47-year-old Tekoar Jennette, of Camp Springs, Maryland. 

More than two years later, police say Jennette died on August 29.

An autopsy from the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Jennette died from the gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide. 

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
