WASHINGTON — Protesters took to D.C. streets on Presidents Day Monday in response to President Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency to fund a wall at the southern border.
Local leaders, advocates and activists joined together against Trump's "illegal fake emergency," as they referred to it in a press release.
The local protest is part of a national day of outcry in response to Trump's declaration of a national emergency in order to fund his border wall.
"The Constitution gives Congress the power to spend federal funds," one speaker at the event said. "Based on law, the president has limited power to spend those funds without congressional approval."

Activists taking part in the protest will demand that Congress takes action in order to overrule his emergency declaration.
Protesters chanted "fake emergency" as speakers addressed the crowd at Lafayette Square near the White House on Monday afternoon.
