Dog rescued from car in DC on the hottest day of the year

After being rescued, officers gave Jack the Yorkie some water and he's doing fine.

WASHINGTON -- We're officially in the "dog days of summer" and with that comes the vital reminder: do not leave your pet in the car unattended.

Thanks to DC Police a 7-month-old Yorkie was rescued from a parked car during Monday's hottest day of the year.

After being rescued, officers gave Jack the Yorkie some water and he's doing fine.

Pets left in cars on a hot day can die of a heatstroke in 15 minutes, according to PETA. Pets can also suffer brain damage if left in extreme temperatures.
