A memorial of a different sort: Barbie, Ken, and friends, in the front yard of a row house in Logan Circle at 1454 Q St. NW.

The publicity-shy artist calls it the "Barbie Pond" on Avenue Q. And it changes with the seasons. The scenes memorialized on a popular Instagram account.

Pregnant Barbie to the tune of Madonna's, "Papa Don't Preach," I'm Keeping My Baby. For election day, you could vote for Ken and Barbie. There're lots of layouts celebrating gay culture. Some recommended for mature audiences.

"You have to see it for yourself really," said neighborhood dog walker Jesse Maleh. "It's just amazing to behold in person, how creative they get. It makes me smile."

Like a lot of art, you can enjoy the tableaux just for the fun of them. Or you can delve in for a political message.

"This one I think is about, let's all just get along," said neighbor Bebe Valdez. "It's the old Thanksgiving story, Pilgrims and natives: campy...and profound."

"We were all illegal immigrants in this county," said Linda Segebrecht, who was visiting from Kansas. "And all of a sudden we invaded someone else's country. So that's what I think they're trying to say in this one."

Just not everyone gets it.

The Barbie Pond on Q Street is free and open 24 hours. It's even on Google Maps and Trip Adviser.
