DC police officer dragged by vehicle in NE, suspect arrested

WASHINGTON - D.C. police have arrested the suspect wanted for dragging an officer alongside of a car Thursday night.

D.C. police said the assault happened at about 10:28 p.m. while the officer was helping with a child and family services investigation and tried to apprehend a suspect in a car. The suspect accelerated the car, which then caused the officer to be pulled alongside of it.

Police said the officer was able to free himself from the car as the car drove away from the scene.

The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The car was recovered, authorities added.

Police identified the suspect as Darius Avery Gross, 25. He was arrested and charged Friday with assault on a police officer.
