DC bar offers $5 shutdown cocktails for federal employees as government shutdown nears

Cocktail names include "Nothing Really Mattis" and "Mexico Will Pay for This."

With a federal employee ID, government workers can now enjoy $5 cocktails at the Capitol Lounge in D.C. following the government shutdown. 

As the government shutdown neared on Friday night, the D.C. bar tweeted out a $5 shutdown cocktail menu for federal employees. 

The cocktail offerings began at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday.

The following are the names of the specialty cocktails that are being offered: 

  • Nothing Really Mattis 
  • Mexico Will Pay for This
  • Hot Tub Crime Machine 
  • The Aoc Bourgeoisie 
  • Boarder Wall Banger 
  • Butina’s On The Rocks 
  • Stephen Miller’s Hair Affair 

On the bar's website, it states "No politics. No Miller Light." under the Capitol Lounge logo. 

On Friday evening, both the House and the Senate adjourned for the night without reaching a deal, guaranteeing a partial government shutdown. The shutdown began at midnight.
