WASHINGTON -- A quintessential D.C. project thought up years ago is finally coming together. A Walk of Fame to honor the rich history of the historic theatre and the artists that have graced its stage is headed towards completion.
Artists and contractors have been putting medallions into the ground to honor Pearl Bailey, Chuck Brown, James Brown, Ruth Brown, Cab Calloway, The Clovers, Billy Eckstine, Ella Fitzgerald, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Hampton, Moms Mabley, Abbie Mitchell, Billy Taylor, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and a combination of Howard Theatre managers and owners since its opening in 1910.
The Walk of Fame will include sculptures, metal medallions and paving patterns which will be placed in the sidewalks and pathways surrounding the theatre.
The overall project budget is $400,000. The Walk of Fame will span .1 mile starting at 7th Street NW and S. Street NW to the front of the theatre.
