Crews suffer from heat exhaustion while battling DC apartment fire

The fire was put out quickly. Two civilians were taken to the hospital for evaluation and two firefighters were taken for heat exhaustion.

WASHINGTON — Multiple firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion while trying to put out an apartment fire in Southwest, D.C. on Saturday. 

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services crews responded to a seventh floor apartment fire in the 200 block of I Street. 

Officials reported smoke conditions on several floors and many residents were evacuated from the building.

The fire was put out quickly. Two civilians were taken to the hospital for evaluation and two firefighters were taken for heat exhaustion. 

No word on what caused the fire at this time.
