ARLINGTON, Va. - More than 300 volunteers from the D.C. area, including Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, placed 160,000 roses at headstones at Arlington National Cemetery. The event on Sunday was held to honor fallen service members.
The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation pays tribute to military veterans every year across the country with the tradition.
Volunteers placed flowers on headstones at 30 national cemeteries across America on Sunday.
It was just the latest tribute to the hundreds of thousands of service members laid to rest in our nation's most hallowed ground. On Thursday, members of the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, also known as The Old Guard, placed American flags at the grave sites of those buried in Arlington.
The tradition, known as “flags in,” has been held for more than 60 years.
