Police in Alexandria say no, as they pressure city officials to increase their starting salary.

The police union in Alexandria, said Alexandria Police officers make the lowest starting salary in the DMV by thousands.

"We're currently floating around the bottom and we always make it back to the bottom. Treat us fairly that's all we're asking," said Officer Bennie Evans, Jr., who has been a patrol officer for over 20 years.

Rookie police officers in Prince Georges County, Montgomery County and Fairfax County all make starting salaries in the $50,000 range.

Alexandria's mayor said she's committed to getting her officers fair pay. She said the city manager has allocated 1.5 million dollars in the budget for public safety. The budget vote will take place at the end of May.
