WASHINGTON -- Metropolitan Police detectives have been busy overnight due to three separate shootings that sent five men to the hospital in the span of two short hours, with one victim in critical condition.
MPD officials say the violence started around 11:48 p.m. when they received a report of a shooting in the 3500 block of Stanton Rd. in Southeast. When the responding officers arrived at the scene they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were conscious when they were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.
The second shooting which occurred in the 100 block of Ivanhoe St., SW, also led to the discovery of two adult male victims around 1:25 a.m. Both men were transported with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Police say the most recent incident was reported around 1:39 a.m., by a shooting victim who made it to a nearby Shell gas station after being shot in the 1000 block of Southern Ave. in Southeast.
Police were in the area at the time of the shooting responded quickly. Medics transported the victim, who was conscious, to the hospital. He immediately went into surgery and is now in recovery in critical condition.
Southern Ave was closed in both directions at Wheeler Rd due to police activity until 5:40 a.m.
So far MPD officials say they have no information on possible suspects or motive in any of the three cases.
