MINNEAPOLIS - April 20th, or 4/20, is the unofficial holiday for pot smokers. So, a couple police departments in Minnesota used Twitter in the best way imaginable.
"Undercover #420 stings are underway," the Wyoming, Minnesota Police Department tweeted Wednesday morning. The photo, accompanying the caption, shows a cardboard box trap with bags of Cheetos and Doritos as bait.

By Wednesday night, the tweet received nearly 2,000 re-tweets and more than 2,000 likes. Many who responded to the tweet enjoyed the levity and appreciated a law enforcement agency engaging with the community in such a way. Others, however, took offense to the tweet, accusing the department of making light of drug abuse. The department responded by pinning the following tweet:
Seriously: If u or someone u know is having issues w/ alcohol or drug abuse, DM us so we can connect u w/ resources. That doesnt mean jail.— Wyoming, MN Police (@wyomingpd) April 20, 2016
The Wyoming Police Department wasn't the only agency to get in on the fun. Shakopee Police also hoped to bait marijuana users. "Since its 420, we would like to welcome all drug dealers to use our lobby for their transactions today. Please check in at the front desk," a tweet read.

When someone commented "4/20 is only for weed though, not for actual drugs" Shakopee replied, "we welcome all drug dealers. In fact, if you want to sell stolen items, we would welcome that as well."
As of Wednesday night, SPD's tweet has received more than 1,000 re-tweets and more than 1,500 likes.
Shakopee Police also followed up the tweet with a serious note about drug abuse, stating it has a $3,000 scholarship available for treatment and to message them for details.
No word on if any stoners took the online bait.
