Police: 18-month-old stabbed in DC, suspect in custody

WASHINGTON — A 2-year-old girl was stabbed Wednesday evening in a courtyard of an apartment complex in Northeast Washington, according to D.C. police.

Police said the girl was stabbed several times, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The stabbing occurred at about 5:50 p.m. in the 1700 block of Benning Road NE. Upon arrival on the scene, authorities discovered a 2-year-old female, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where she is continuing to recover with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities arrested Devonte Tyree Wright, 21, of Southeast and charged him with Assault with Intent to Kill while Armed (Knife) and First Degree Cruelty to Children.
