WASHINGTON — District officials are urging 16 and 17-year-olds to get a booster shot as soon as possible.
After the CDC announced Thursday that 16 and 17-year-olds have been approved for a third dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, Mayor Muriel Bowser and D.C. Health Director Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt released a statement urging residents to get the booster at least six months after their second shot. They say the booster is now available to newly eligible teens at several District-sponsored vaccination sites.

Moderna and Johnson & Johnson boosters have not yet been approved for individuals under 18.
People between the ages of 5 and 15 are eligible to receive Pfizer's two-dose coronavirus vaccine, but they are not yet eligible for a booster shot.
Families in the District can also schedule appointments to have a vaccinator come to their house and provide vaccinations to everyone in the household by calling 1-855-363-0333.
Anyone older than 18 should get a booster shot at least six months after their second dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine or at least two months after receiving the single dose J&J vaccine.
