FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Fairfax County Police Department announced the sudden death of one of their K-9 officers on Thursday.
Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. said K-9 "Doby," collapsed and stopped breathing while responding to a report of an armed robbery in Alexandria.
Doby's handler tried to give him CPR and he was taken to Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield, but he did not survive.
Roessler said the department will conduct a necropsy to determine the cause of Doby's death.
The 2-year-old K-9 was born in Hungary and had been a member of the department since March 2018 and active since August 2018.
