14-year-old arrested after threat on social media put Md. HS on lockdown

"Starting a school shooting at crossland high school in temple hills," the tweet read.

A 14-year-old has been arrested after threats were made on social media targeting a Maryland high school.

Parents and caretakers picked their students up early Tuesday after a Twitter threat targeted a Temple Hills, Md. school.

A suspect using the Twitter handle @alvinanthonymo2 posted the threat targeting Crossland High School at about 9 a.m.

The suspect's identity is being withheld because he is a minor. Police say he is being charged with with making a threat of mass violence.

“Starting a school shooting at crossland high school in temple hills,” the tweet read.

The threat sent the school into a lockdown.

Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski posted a video on Twitter asking the suspect to turn himself in.

They have pinpointed a location connected to the suspect, police said, but they’re still searching for the person who posted the threat.

Crossland High School staff helped calm fears and sign out students who wanted to leave early.

“You can’t play with it when they threaten a school. I ran to get my son,” said Lavonne Shaw, a mother whose child is a student at the school.

Police said once they apprehend the suspect, that person will be charged with making a false threat.
