DC to send out test emergency alert Saturday ahead of July 4 festivities

If you’re near the National Mall on Saturday morning, you’ll get it.

WASHINGTON -- If you get an emergency alert on Saturday, don’t freak out! It’s just a test.

The Department of Homeland Security is getting ready for the Fourth of July festivities in Washington D.C.

They are planning to send the alert out around 11 to 11:30 a.m. If you’re near the National Mall, you’ll get it. You might also see agents in the area.

As we’ve previously reported, the president is planning to speak from the Lincoln Memorial this Independence Day so this kind of preparation isn’t unusual.

Earlier this week, the White House finally unveiled those plans.

The World War II Memorial and areas around the reflecting pool will be open to the public for the first time in recent memory for viewing the fireworks display.

The fireworks will be launched from  West Potomac Park this year.

"A Capitol Fourth," the annual concert and televised show on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building will go on as scheduled.

Trump's event, called "Salute to America," will include music, military demonstrations and flyovers.
