Detectives arrest, charge DC man for murder in deadly August shooting

Detectives arrested 25-year-old Dwayne Brooks, Jr., of Southwest, D.C. on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON — Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred in August of 2022.

Dwayne Brooks, Jr., of Southwest, D.C. is charged with First Degree Murder while Armed for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of Juwaan Henry, 21, of Silver Spring, Maryland.

On Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022, around 8:15 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of 7th Street, Northwest for a report of a shooting.

At the scene, officers located a man, later identified as 21-year-old Juwaan Henry, suffering from gunshot wounds. 

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and took the victim to a local hospital.

After all life-saving efforts failed, Henry was pronounced dead.

On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 25-year-old Dwayne Brooks, Jr., of Southwest, DC. 

He was transported to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed-Felony Murder.

The investigation into this shooting remains active and ongoing.
