Police: Fairfax County teacher accused of having sexual relationship with high school student

57-year-old Philip Spivey was arrested on Wednesday on four felony charges.

WASHINGTON — A 57-year-old teacher in Fairfax County is accused of having a sexual relationship with a Justice High School student, police said.

Philip Spivey of Falls Church was arrested on Wednesday on four felony charges of indecent liberties by a custodian, Fairfax County Police said. Spivey, who is listed as an ESOL teacher, is also a private music instructor, according to officials.

Staff at Justice High learned about the allegations against Spivey earlier in January, according to a letter that was sent out to parents and posted on the school's website.

Spivey had not been at Justice High School since Jan.8 and was on leave when the allegations were made, the letter said.

"There is no greater responsibility than the safety and well-being of our students," a statement released by the high school read. "We responded quickly and have worked cooperatively with police throughout their investigation."

Spivey is currently being held without bond at an adult detention center in Fairfax County. Detectives with Fairfax County urge anyone with more information on Spivey or the case to speak to their Major Crimes Bureau detectives at 703-246-7800.
