16-year-old arrested for 2020 homicide, police say

18-year-old Richard Bangura was shot and killed on August 9, 2020.

WASHINGTON — Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection to a deadly shooting from 2020.

According to D.C. Police, the shooting happened in the 2400 block of Franklin Street in Northwest on August 9, 2020. 

When officers arrived just before 7 p.m., they found a man who had been shot in the head inside a car. The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries. 

Police identified the victim as 18-year-old Richard Bangura.

"This young man, the decedent, was a young man of promise and unfortunately he will never have the chance to fulfill the promises for his family and for his community," D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee said in a press conference. 

On Wednesday, October 20, a 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection to Bangura's death. The teen has been charged with First Degree Murder.
