WASHINGTON — Metro police said they have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old social worker killed two months ago.
Roger Marmet was killed Oct. 24 in the 1200 block of 17th Street Northeast when he was caught by a stray bullet while in his car.
Authorities held a news conference Friday afternoon announcing the arrest in Marmet’s death.
Officials said Barry Marable, 22, of Northeast DC, was arrested Friday morning. He has been charged with first-degree murder while armed (premeditated), police said.
"The suspect in the case was shooting at someone else and ended up striking Roger Marmet and killing him. He was apparently just driving home, I believe, from a day of work," DC Metro Police Chief Peter Newsham said. "It's just senseless to see these kinds of murders."
In November, Marmet’s family and the Roofers Union in Adams Morgan put together a weekend-long benefit to honor all DC victims of gun violence.
