18-year-old inmate dies in custody in Virginia. Officials investigate cause of death

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — An 18-year-old inmate died while in custody earlier this month and now officials are investigating the cause. 

On July 8 around 10:30 p.m., Sha-Kez Amir Green was found unresponsive in his cell.

Green was taken from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center (ADC) to the hospital where he later died. 

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will examine the body, but preliminarily investigation shows there are no signs of foul play.

Green had been in custody of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and incarcerated at the ADC since Dec. 18, 2018. 

No additional information has been released.
