Shop small this Saturday at businesses across the DMV

Remember small business owners are your neighbors. So, keep those dollars in the community by shopping 'til you drop locally on Saturday.

WASHINGTON — Shop small this Saturday and save big as businesses across the DMV participate in Small Business Saturday.

WUSA9 is breaking down where to go in D.C., Maryland and Virginia for the best deals.

From holiday markets to online boutiques featuring local vendors, there is something for everyone, whether you're shopping for yourself or looking for the perfect gift to give.


Shop in the District campaign 

This website brings together some of the District's best local small retailers to one place. Launched in 2020, Shop in the District offers a retail directory of stores, with an option to filter by neighborhood as well as other categories. 

Mayor Muriel Bowser, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development, and the Washington DC Economic Partnership created the campaign to make sure you could support your favorite local stores from the comfort of your home.

DC Shop Small

Launched in 2020, the DC Shop Small website maintains a searchable directory of small businesses throughout the District by category.

Several stores are offering discounts this year.

Georgetown Small Business Saturday

Georgetown is also getting in on the action Saturday by offering over 20 specials from shops, restaurants, galleries, services and more.

Over 300 small businesses call Georgetown home, comprising 60% of the commercial district's restaurants and retailers.

"They are the heart of this community, and this year they need your support more than ever."

DC Downtown Holiday Market

The 18th annual Downtown Holiday Market, aka the D.C.'s outdoor shopping village, kicked off for the holiday season Friday, Nov. 18. 

This year's retail lineup features more than 70 exhibitors including Black-owned and minority-owned businesses from the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development's. 

Operated by the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) and Diverse Markets Management, this year’s market will again take over two entire blocks of F Street NW, from 7th to 9th Streets NW. With its main grand entrance located on the sidewalk in front of the National Portrait Gallery.

The village, open everyday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., will run through Friday, December 13, 2022.

In addition to the shopping, there will be live entertainment from regional performers.

Eastern Market Main Street

The Holly Days returns for the 6th year to support the businesses at the heart of Capitol Hill. Enjoy holiday shopping, dining, lighting and window displays, music and more along Eastern Market Main Street. You can find unique gifts from around the world sold by local small businesses.

The indoor market is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (closed Monday).

Tenley WinterFest 2022

Tenley WinterFest runs from November 26 through December 3. It features a yeti scavenger hunt, winter feast options and festive storefront window displays.

From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 26, pick up a free reusable tote with coupons and giveaways to inspire you to shop small.


Downtown Frederick 

Shop small the whole weekend! The Friday before Small Business Saturday is Frosty Friday in Downtown Frederick. It features all-day shopping, free parking, live music and gifts from the Snowflake Tree.

On Saturday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., visitors can shop more than 200 locally owned and operated businesses.

Robin Hill Farm and Vineyards

From 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, join the vineyard for a Small Business Saturday event featuring over 50 local vendors.

In addition, there will be live music by John Luskey and The No Sauce Que' and Pizza Hotline food trucks on site.


Shop Small Weekend in Alexandria 

Alexandria's holiday shopping season kicks off with Plaid Friday: Alexandria's Small Business Black Friday on November 25, 2022. Check out at least 50 independent shops offering one-of-a-kind deals.

Then, celebrate Small Business Saturday on November 26, 2022, with specials and discounts from nearly 65 independently owned boutiques in Old Town and beyond.

Find $5 garage parking in Old Town on Saturdays and Sundays, and after 5 p.m. on weekdays, at the Courthouse Square Garage, 111 S. Pitt Street, and the Market Square Garage, 108 N. Fairfax Street.

Celebrate Small Business Saturday in Downtown Norfolk

Meet in Downtown Norfolk Saturday to shop small.

"Why shop local? Each dollar you spend at an independent business returns three times more money to our local economy than one dollar spent at a chain!"

By visiting the historic Selden Market you can find the best gifts that support small businesses.

Fairfax City Elf Hunt

The Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt, in support of Small Business Saturday, will begin on Saturday, November 26 at 9:00 am with a Welcome Station at Old Town Square, 10415 North Street.

At the Welcome Station, visitors can pick up a scavenger hunt card to help locate elves across the city. In addition, there will be small treats, coffee and cocoa to-go, free Small Business Saturday totes, and more while supplies last until 12 p.m.

Falls Church Farmers Market

The popular market in downtown Falls Church will have special-guest vendors on Saturday. Shop from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. in support of local businesses.
