Mac and cheese festival in NoVa apparently canceled

It's unclear why, but WUSA9 is trying to get in touch with organizers.

UPDATE: This event appears to be canceled. WUSA9 reached out to organizers and is waiting to hear back with more information.

When we have it, we'll post it here!

ORIGINAL STORY:

If you are looking for weekend plans and don’t have issues with dairy, do we have an idea for you! (Or if you do have issues with dairy but are throwing caution to the wind because cheese.)

The 2019 NOVA Mac & Cheese Festival still has some tickets left for their event on April 27.

Organizers Michelle Hale and Scott Bowers said they have already sold more than 1,600 tickets to the event at Loudoun Fairgrounds in Leesburg.

Hale said her company has put on 55 festivals in the past five years, but this is the first time they are doing mac and cheese tasting. The idea, she said, turned out to be a hit.

“We were just thinking about what kind of a theme would be fun for 2019 and what we like – comfort food – and what could be put into a tasting format,” she explained. “Once we put it out there, interest skyrocketed.”

Local food trucks and restaurants like Fork’d, Flavour, and Gentle Harvest will offer tastings for attendees. Mattie’s will also be there, dishing out soft serve.

Hale said they don’t have many tickets left, but they can be purchased on their website here for $38.

“That’s just to make sure everybody has a great experience,” she explained.

If you can’t make it or tickets sell out, Hale said they are putting on a free entry food truck rally at the same location later that night.

If you’re set on mac and cheese, though, Hale said they are planning another one on Sept. 7 in Montgomery County.

She said they might add a third on Oct. 5 in Gaithersburg too, if the other two events go well.

UPDATE: There will be an encore mac and cheese themed festival at Loudoun Fairgrounds on Sept. 14.
