“Nevertheless, She Persisted: Honoring Women Who Fight All Forms of Discrimination Against Women” is the 2018 theme for National Women’s History Month.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the passage of legislation designating March as Women’s History Month in the United States. As we welcome the new month, here is a list of 13 events in the DMV to honor the trailblazing women of the past and present:

Women’s History Day

Celebrate Women’s History Month at the DAR museum with a day of activities. Explore the DAR museum, archives and library as you learn about female explorers, scientists, artists, activists, authors, spies and more.

Tour: Fierce Women

The museum is brimming with artwork by and about women who thrived as professionals and influencers despite social norms that denounced such public, “unfeminine” behavior. See seven centuries of art in 60 minutes.

Film: Womanhouse

Womanhouse, a documentary film by Johanna Demetrakas, is a fascinating historical look at feminism, its reception in the 1970s, and the ever-important relationship between art and social change.

Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

The Art+Feminism edit-a-thon focuses on improving Wikipedia entries related to notable women artists and art world figures. The event is part of a global initiative to help improve Wikipedia’s gender imbalance.

Daughters of the American Revolution Library Genealogy: Female Patriots

In honor of Women's History Month, this class will give attendees some tips on how to research for female ancestors in the Revolutionary War.
