Stylists who provided free haircuts rewarded by Apple Federal Credit Union

A cut above the rest.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Going back to school is a stressful time. Kids want to make a good impression on their new classmates and look their best. The Fairfax County Fire Department has been hosting haircuts for many years where stylists pitch in for free. Apple Federal Credit Union decided to reward them for a job well done.

The stylists received restaurant and movie theater gift certificates. "We've been here for many years. We just want to say thank you for giving back to our students," said Robert Sowell Sr. Vice President of Community Relations at Apple Federal Credit Union. "I can remember being one of the kids in the chair myself. It's important to look good because you feel good. It's important for them to get that fresh start."

The kids had a great time at the community event. "It felt like I was in heaven," said Mekhi Holmes of getting his haircut. The third-grader is ready to take on the new school year looking and feeling his best.
