It's time to take a digital detox

If you feel the need to check your phone every minute of the day, it's time you take a digital detox.

According to recent studies, an astounding 67% of millennials would give up showering, driving, speaking, sleeping, eating, or even water for an entire day to be able to have their phone with them. That’s why DC-based tech-wellness expert Deb Lee created a digital detox.

“The Phone Cleanse” is a 7-day guide that helps kick your worst mobile habits, slims down app consumption, and detoxes notification usage. The guide includes a week’s worth of exercises that cut out behaviors that bloat our mobile lives. Developed for Android and iOS users, the cleanse encourages users to put down the phone and break the cycle.

The mobile cleanse is as follows…

Day 1, The App Purge: Delete 10 apps. Right now. They’re hiding in rarely visited folder or buried on your phone’s fourth page. Get rid of them.

Day 2, Gray for a Day: Say goodbye to color for a day and put your phone in grayscale. Search for ‘Color Filter’ on iPhone or ‘Color Adjustment’ on Android and toggle the color switch. Sometimes our screens are so enchanting it seems impossible to stop scrolling.

Day 3, The 24-hour Notification Fast: Open your settings, scroll to ‘Notifications,’ and turn off ALL of them – texts, emails, everything. For an entire day.

Day 4, The Storage Wars: Free up storage by clearing five GBs of media. Photos, videos, music, texts – delete whatever it takes to make space.

Day 5, The 60-minute Rule: Only check your device once an hour. When you do look at it, limit your time. Lee recommends a max of 10 minutes.

Day 6, Sleep Separation: After setting your alarm before bed, put your phone completely out of reach and don’t touch it again until morning.

Day 7, The Minimalist Home Screen: Clear your home screen of every app. Leave only text, email, and phone in your tool bar, and put everything else in a single folder on your second page.

The best part of this cleanse is that you can make it your own. You can tweak a few things and adjust it to your needs. For more information, viewers can visit “Xfinity Mobile Phone Cleanse,” or Deb Lee’s website.
