Celebrate Bastille Day yourself with Parisian cocktails

WASHINGTON — Bastille Day marks the end of tyrannical rule in France. On July 14, 1789, the Storming of the Bastille took place where the French stormed the Bastille, which was a prison at the time. The storming of the Bastille was a major turning point during the French Revolution. An exact year later, the Fête de la Fédération was established to emphasize and enjoy the unity of France. Today, the French celebrate the holiday to symbolize the start of the democracy they all enjoy. 

Sip on these delicious French-inspired cocktails while you shout "Viva la France"!

SPICED PEAR & ELDERFLOWER COLLINS

Ingredients:

  • 1oz St-Germain
  • 1oz cognac
  • 0.75oz pear juice
  • 0.75oz lemon juice
  • 0.5oz Quartre Epices Honey Syrup

Directions

Combine all ingredients the club soda, in a mixing tin and shake. Strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Top with club soda. Garnish with a horse’s neck lemon peel and freshly cracked pepper.

ST-GERMAIN SPRITZ 

Ingredients:

  • 2 parts Brut Champagne
  • 1 ½ part St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
  • 2 parts Sparkling Water

Directions:

Fill a tall Collins glass with ice. Add Champagne first, then St-Germain, then Club Soda. Stir completely and then garnish with a lemon twist.

THE NYMPH’S REPLY

  • 2 oz Sparkling wine
  • 1.25 oz Cognac, preferably Pierre Ferrand 1840
  • 0.5 oz St-Germain
  • 0.5 oz Herbes de Provence Syrup
  • 2 dashes absinthe, preferably Kübler
  • 2.5 oz Soda water
  • 2 dashes Saline Solution

Directions:

Pour all the ingredients into a Collins glass filled with ice. Stir to combine. Garnish with a lemon twist, a cucumber ribbon, and a sprig of thyme.

DIAMOND SPRITZ

  • 1.75 oz Normandy pear cider
  • 1 oz St-Germain
  • 0.5 oz Tonic water
  • 0.3 oz Suze, preferably Suze Saveur d’Autrefois
  • 0.3 oz Vermouth, preferably Noilly Prat
  • 2 dashes peach bitters

Directions:

Pour the ingredients into a wineglass filled with ice. Stir to combine. Garnish with micro herbs.

CLUB SPRITZ

  • 3.5 oz prosecco spumante
  • 1.75 oz RinQuinQuin
  • 0.5 oz St-Germain
  • 0.5 oz Shiso Cordial
  • 0.25 oz Martini & Rossi Riserva Speciale Bitter

Directions:

Pour all the ingredients into a small wineglass filled with ice. Stir to combine. Garnish with shiso leaves and grapefruit zest.

SPRITZ THROUGH SUMMER

  • 2 oz St-Germain
  • 2 oz cava
  • 2 oz soda water
  • 0.5 oz lime juice

Directions:

Combine all the ingredients in a wineglass over ice. Stir to combine. Garnish with Thai basil leaves, cardamom pods, limes wheels, and a lemon twist.
