ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9 — In the heart of the courthouse section of Arlington, inside a boring building office building there is a company doing “rare” work. Excuse the pun.

Rare is a global conservation group with an office designed to put everyone on equal footing.

“It’s a very flat organization, meaning we all have the exact same workspace here,” Rare marketing director Brian Ullman said.

Even the CEO works at a desk out in the open.

“What we do is we go to locations and help these fishermen better manage their waters,” Ullman said.

That is just one initiative. Rare also focuses on farming in developing countries and protecting clean water supplies.

From the office in Arlington, Rare manages those conservation efforts around the world.

How do they do it?

Rare outfitted each conference room to have that global connection; a hyper link to the teams across six continents.

“Ten years ago, this wouldn’t be possible because video conferencing, Skype, WhatsApp just wasn’t at the level we need it to be,” Ullman said.
