19) WHY
ENROLL IF I HAVE TO FOLLOW A LARGER SYSTEM?
In consideration of the larger systems
and the several hundreds of thousands of people in our area
that follow a larger system, we do our best to make sure those announcements
stay prominent.
If looking for that larger system, perhaps the organization may have
not activated their message at
that time or W*USA 9may have gone to commercial. Our system is not designed
for smaller organizations
or private businesses.
A Reminder To Our Viewers: On the emergency day, the phone lines need
to stay open for this process.
Below are the public school systems registered
with W*USA 9 who are at liberty to contact us by phone or may activate
an automated emergency
message at their discretion. W*USA 9 is not at liberty to speak for any
school system until official word is issued. It is suggested the school
system be contacted the following day to inquire why they have not activated
an emergency announcement.
DC Public Schools – Most
charters follow. Identical messages to DC Schools will not be allowed.

Please use the instructions on our Closings & Delays
frontpage. Click on the "New" link which cooresponds with your organization.
At this time, return registrants may send
an email to closings@wusa9.com to
update and receive their information. Please use the instructions for
the items to include in this email in our Closings & Delays
frontpage. For your convenience, these instructions
are PDF files that can be saved directly to your computer for printing
or emailing to others.
Every media outlet is slightly different and we recognize more than one
may be used by your agency. We ask registrants to please retain and
use the original notice received. Due to the volume of requests and
security reasons, information on how to use, assigning or confirmation
of a code, password, or any other description of this service will
not be imparted to those not registered or general calls "just
trying to confirm, to find out...".
In 2006, W*USA9 converted to an email system. All renewals, inquiries,
account changes now
use our official email: closings@wusa9.com.
In 1999, W*USA9 discontinued faxes for submissions, renewals, and making
announcements.
If you have sent a fax for this purpose, it will not be recognized.
ALL reminders to renew and return notices/confirmations by US mail
have been discontinued. Return responses for these items by USPS will
not be recognized without a SASE
(Self-addressed Stamped Envelope).
W*USA9 is making an announcement on your behalf.
Registrants can activate announcements 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. We always need a way to contact someone from
your agency to confirm the information when the necessity arises. It
cannot be left unattended, dated, or unconfirmed. Although a daunting
and impossible task, we make it a point to try to speak many as we
can in our system once a year. It is also for your protection as well
as our measure to assure the information we are broadcasting is accurate.
It is our goal to constantly improve closings systems as it is a big
part of our news service and to let you know of provisions to better
serve you and address any concerns you might have. Simply put, we like
to know who you are and we'd like you to know us!
In most cases, when the renewal process detects a staff change on your
listed authorized users,
a new code will be issued to you without your request. The old code
will no longer work.
If unauthorized use is detected, the account will be frozen from all
users until the occurrence can be investigated and appropriate measures
taken.
Yes - ALL accounts expire on July 15 in
the year of issue. This is necessary for all parties to stay current.
If anyone on your contact list has changed or added AFTER you have
renewed, it is your responsibility to alert us to that change immediately.
Send an email to: closings@wusa9.com and
in the message line, write Authorized User Information.
Application
for new submissions and renewals
will be conducted from July 15 to October 30.
If a public school system or any government agency renewing an account,
please contact
The Instant Information Bar at 202.895.5513. Please leave a voicemail
message or closings@wusa9.com. In
the message line write URGENT – then
the name of the institution.
The account is frozen until updated information is received and processed
which cannot be guaranteed same day. It may take 1-5 business days.
W*USA 9 deeply cares about public safety. We encourage everyone
to have emergency contingencies in place before the start of your
regular school year and to put it on your agency’s annual calendar
or schedules.
Returning registrants receive notices by email. If your
email was returned to us, we make every attempt to contact you by mail.
If we do not hear from you within 10 days upon receipt, the account is
frozen until we hear from you. If regular mail was also returned, your
account will be deleted. You will have to consult Submission Requirements
to start over as a first-time registrant.
First-time registrants: As soon as your submission letter is received,
it is processed usually, no more than 10-14 business days. Do not forget
to include a business email for yourself and those authorized to use
the account. Your request will not be processed without it.
Due to the volume of requests and security
reasons, we do not conduct this procedure over the phone.
We will take calls if there are issues in activating the account or
problems with the message.
Until further notice, please use the official email bank: closings@wusa9.com.
Most times, it is just a change with an authorized user or phone number.
In
the message line, write CHANGE then specify the item as Authorized
User Information, phone, email, etc.
For security reasons, contacts not listed
on your account will not be honored and your account will be frozen.
In order to avoid more than one contact attempting the same thing,
more than one contact “making corrections”, or any other
unauthorized registrant use. We ask that your offices inform all those
employees who may find themselves involved in registering, renewing,
or making an announcement to become familiar with the process. If updating
your list of users, contact us by email. In the message line write,
CHANGE then Authorized User Information at closings@wusa9.com
Announcements are limited to the automated selections offered.
Our goal is to maintain a uniform degree
of fairness; we are not at liberty to guarantee messages requiring something
individually specific or unique needs. We appreciate your cooperation
on this issue.
To make an announcement, follow the instructions
on your confirmation notice. W*USA9 discontinued using faxes in 1999.
Your request will
not be acknowledged. Please follow the instructions for renewal
or first-time registrants on Closings & Delays
frontpage.
We do not accept "day of" announcements. If the situation
is that serious, contact the police/fire-rescue.
This service does not recognize announcements
sent by email at this time. If registered, please follow the instructions
on your confirmation notice.
If not registered, go to General Inquiries.
Registrants are required to follow
a larger school or government system first. If an identical announcement
between a larger system and
a registrant is detected, the message will be deleted at our discretion.
You will not be notified of this action.
Our automated system gives authorized users the
ability to place announcements 24-hours a day, 7 days a week and perhaps
it was not activated properly. Consult our website FIRST at www.wusatv9.com
for your listing. If it is not there, try refreshing the browser, particularly
if the announcement was made the night before. WUSA reserves the right
to remove/not air any announcements unconfirmed or appearing dated.
If it has not appeared within 2 minutes, contact us by phone at 202.895.5700.
There may be a problem with the account and we have been unsuccessful
in contacting you.
There are times where the need may be different. The larger
system may elect to remain open and you
may need a two-hour delay. It is expedite information to the public at-large,
as hundreds of smaller
private schools and day cares follow or create a system around a larger
one. This service is not designed
for individual messages, specialized messages, or private businesses.
This system may also be used in
times of flood, fire, or power outages.
