The Feb. 9th snow started at 16 inches.

What is the Super Ruler?

The first snow storm Feb. 5th and 6th produced 21 inches of snow on the Super Ruler. Since then, we lost 5 inches between melting and snow naturally packing.

The Super Ruler is located on the WUSA 9 weather terrace in downtown Washington, DC. It will make an appearance from time to time during 9News Now coverage of these huge winter snow storms. The ruler is 36 inches tall and is made of 4-inch PVC pipe, a pine wood base, and some vinyl mailbox letter/number stickers. This is built to withstand record-breaking snow and blizzard-like conditions.

We'll stream this camera live 24/7 until the snow stops. Hope you enjoy watching!

About the Webcam:

The Logitech Orbit AF is a consumer grade camera protected inside the hole of a cinder block which is covered by a Safeway plastic bag. It's connected to a USB extension cord that's now buried under a rug and 21" of snow, and it runs to a laptop inside the WUSA 9 studios.

We never knew it would survive this long, and now we hope it makes it through another round of snow storms.
