Female driver died in crash that closed all lanes on I-495 in Virginia

A female driver is dead and another person is injured after two separate car crashes occurred on I-495 early Monday morning that shut down the beltway. 

Around 5 a.m.,Virginia State Police responded to a vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of I-495 near Van Dorn Street. 

Police said there was a two-vehicle crash and then a second crash involving a female driver being struck. She was driving in a Nissan Maxima and stopped in the left center lane of beltway. 

The driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck tried to avoid hitting the Maxima, but was unable to. She got out of the car walked into the travel lane where she was hit by another vehicle. Police say she died on the scene. 

At least one other person was transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The victims have not been identified. 

All lanes have reopened.
